BERTOLETTI SHATTERS COMPETITIVE EATING WORLD RECORD AT ROCKVALE OUTLETS' WORLD'S GREATEST SHOO-FLY PIE CONTEST




HEAVYWEIGHT WINNER STOMACHS 37 SLICES, 11.1 POUNDS IN 8 MINUTES!

In Rockvale Outlets' World's Greatest Shoo Fly Pie Contest (www.shooflypiecontest.com), Pat Bertoletti, currently ranked third in the world for competitive eating, shattered the world record today for eating the most Shoo-Fly Pie in eight minutes, taking home the heavyweight title belt. Bertoletti ingested 37 slices, and more than 11 pounds of Shoo-Fly Pie, overtaking last year's world record by 12 slices.

Bertoletti beat out 20 competitive eaters, including fan favorite Sonya Thomas aka "the Black Widow", earning a cash prize of $4,000, in addition to a custom title belt.

Sonya Thomas aka "The Black Widow" took home second place, and a cash prize of $2,000, eating 9.3 pounds of Shoo-Fly Pie (over 32 slices). Returning 2006 champion, Humble Bob Shoudt, placed third, eating 9.25 pounds of Shoo-Fly Pie (31 slices). He took home a $1,500 cash prize.

Rockvale Outlets' Shoo-Fly Pie Eating competition consists of both a professional and amateur round.

Nineteen eaters competed in the amateur competition. In the end, Sean Gordon of Downingtown, PA - who also won the amateur heat in 2006 - took first place by eating 4.41 pounds of pie. He was followed in second place by Andy Rearich of Ephrata, PA, who ate 2.81 pounds. Eric Detweiler of Red Lion, PA ingested 2.78 pounds to take third place.

In the baking competition, Fran Sakelarides of Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, beat out 24 promising bakers to take home the title of "Best Shoo Fly-Pie", in addition to a $500 Extreme Home Bakeover - a grand prize package of all new, state-of-the-art bake ware from Kitchen Collection.

The ultimate food contest designed to celebrate the flavor and heritage of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Rockvale Outlets Shoo Fly Pie Contest was sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating. The contest was held in partnership with sponsors Golden Barrel

Shoo-Fly Pie, a Pennsylvania Dutch dessert, is a sponge cake baked in a crust that contains a heavy molasses filling. It must be made with molasses to be a true "Shoo-Fly Pie."
